Instructions

At least an hour before you're wanting to eat, set out butter to soften and prepare the vegetable pickle. Clean and peel the daikon radish, and slice into thin matchsticks. Slice the cucumber, leaving the skin on. Clean and peel the turnip, and slice thinly into matchsticks. Peel and matchstick the carrot. Seed the jalapeno and cut into thin spears. Place the radish, cucumber, turnip, and carrot in a glass vessel. Pour over the rice vinegar, salt, soy sauce, and fish sauce. Leave to marinate, stirring every so often.

Preheat broiler.

Cut the petite sirloin steak in half and cook to desired doneness for each of the 2 diners. Let rest at least 5 minutes before cutting into thin strips.

Slice the rolls lengthwise and scoop out some of their bready interior. Mix together 1 tsp fish sauce and 1 tsp soy sauce in a rameken, and sprinkle over the bread using a 1/2 tsp measure. Spread out the butter on the inside of the bread.

Broil the bread until crisp and brown.

Spread mayonnaise on each of the sandwiches. Pull the vegetables from the marinade, letting it drip pretty well, and add to the sandwiches, along with the meat strips. Add the jalapeno spears and enjoy.
